According to your grandmother, the Call had never taken place ever since her grandmother was a child, at least as far as your tribe was concerned, principally because there had been no need. Solitary Selkie do exist, but most of your people are loath to leave the community they are born part of, even just for a few days, to visit friends in other tribes or explore new hunting grouns; not for nothing, the worst punishment one of your kin can receive is not death, but exile, after the impression of a mark on their skin so that every Selkie they meet is aware of their crime, and the sinner will not be welcomed in another tribe. A parent’s worst hope is that a young Selkie wanders away by themselves, and most of you would be able to find the way back to their tribe with their eyes closed.
